Educational Program & Resources-
As Director of The McCreary County Museum, I have made it my mission to encourage educators and parents within the county and throughout the state to use our local history Museum as a resource for education by making available the following resources:
Save Our History-
The McCreary County Museum would like to encourage all educators to visit the website www.saveourhistory.com. A resource from The History Channel, the Save Our History Educators Manual is available from their website and is "a local history curriculum and project guide, linked to state standards, that will excite and engage your students and help them make a difference in their community. The FREE Save Our History Educational Manual contains unique lessons and classroom activities for 2nd through 12th grades that will help your students gain an appreciation of local heritage. These lessons and activities include oral history and research projects designed to develop the student’s knowledge of local and national history. These programs are written to the national standards suggested by the National Council for History Education, and are easy to implement in any classroom." The History Channel has taken great strides to make history and preservation an important part of education by providing one class lesson plans and easy to understand projects and forms.
The Kentucky Coal Association-
The Kentucky Coal Association offers valuable resources for educators in the Science, Math, Language Arts and Social Studies fields for all grades K-12. Their resources include Classroom Lesson Plans, Coal Educational Resources and a Teacher Outreach Program all FREE at their website www.coaleducation.org.
